How it all started…
TrackResults is a cloud-based reporting, analytics, and business intelligence platform whose founders originally conceived it as means for their existing companies to better integrate their data. At the time, the focus was on getting answers for improving our business, rather than selling software.
The story begins when entrepreneurial partners recognized a need in their own companies. Sean Nickerson and Drew Reynolds operated a brick and mortar lead generation firm that relied on traditional prospecting tactics from referral calling to broadcast media. They also operated a direct marketing membership sales organization that required face-to-face meetings and demonstrations to make sales. They needed better control, and access to information to simultaneously reduce marketing costs while increasing sales.
In order to maximize the effectiveness of the two companies when working in concert, we began a search for a software product that would combine, warehouse, sort, and report their collective data in real time and without the need to burden the IT department. The automotive, real estate, solar, home-improvement, hospitality, education, athletic, and countless other industries spend untold sums of money on software. Surely someone had already built a system that would meet the needs of these two companies… or so we hoped.
Unhappy with the expense and complexity of commercially available software, we did what we had to… we built our own! Being that this was 2004, we wanted a new system with remote storage and access from any computer (then called ASP, but today known as “the cloud”) to keep IT costs as low as possible. Our requirements were viewed as too technically complicated by every software developer we contacted.
Originally designed to streamline workflow and optimize the efficiency of the existing companies, the new platform quickly became a matchmaking service for prospects and salespeople. Data could be analyzed by anyone at any time to see which agents were best suited for certain prospects and marketing campaigns, or which products should be shown to whom and even which day of the week would provide a statistical advantage in signing a specific deal.
In a short time, both companies became reliant on the new software for instant answers to key strategic process questions and to identify patterns and trends in a way that small to medium companies had never been able to. The potential of what we had created only became fully apparent when we discovered that even Fortune 500 level companies did not have a comparable resource!
Thus, in 2006 TrackResults’ first commercial platform was released; an agile, easy to implement software solution that warehoused the companies’ data and allowed the creation of ad-hoc reports (on-the-fly custom reports) by anyone who needed them. Adoption was completely generated by demand and marketing was limited to peer-recognition and awards won. Almost immediately, software sales took off and demand was competing with the other two businesses for resources.
The fact that TrackResults was originally developed as an in-house tool provided the icing on the cake… Nobody could come close to our pricing because we had neither borrowed nor sought money from investors for development or advertising and the system was built to require very limited IT resources. We are perfectly happy without fifteen minute, celebrity-laden promotional videos but then again, the companies that produce such campaigns don’t pay for them… their customers do! We are also perfectly content not having to manage the thousands of employees required to sell, implement and train users of overly complicated systems or the dozens of engineers tasked with keeping them running. They wouldn’t be our expense… they would be YOURS and neither of us care to deal with them.
Over ten years since that first commercial launch we have continued to improve TrackResults. In 2012. We developed industry-first connector technology that automatically imports and standardizes client data from varied and disparate data sources. Our customer base as expanded from our original travel-industry beginnings to include industries varying from home security to the medical field.
Today we are pursuing aggressive growth with clients in multiple industries for our software, analytics and consulting services. Our home base of Salt Lake City, UT provides an excellent hub from which we can reach clients throughout the Mountain West and beyond.
